I started this business because I had a vision of providing quality carpet and flooring solutions. I have been in the flooring industry now for twenty-six years and first learned the ropes working as a manager at a Sherwin-Williams store, in Hampton.
Since completing college in 1982, each job has been a stepping stone towards running my own business. I’ve worked as a computer graphics salesman, spent three years in the Reprographics program at Newport News Shipbuilding, and a year with Caterpillar Machinery. After gaining valuable experience, I enthusiastically threw open the doors for business in 2006.
With emerging players and an explosion of new products, the sector has become much more competitive today. Moreover, it has become challenging to maintain customer satisfaction as customers now have a better knowledge of topics related to flooring. However, their choices are often skewed due to the abundance of inaccurate information found on the internet. To overcome this, I try to identify my customers’ style preferences. I have noticed that homeowners today seem to prefer hardwood to luxury vinyl tile flooring, which was in vogue when I began working in the industry, in 1993.
To meet the ever-changing demands of my clients and stand out from the competition, I am continually striving to improve my business, and do not settle for mediocre services. At every step of the way, I make it a point to provide all my clients with valuable, honest advice, which stems from my strong Christian values. In some way, my transparency and desire to be better have helped us build a solid reputation.
As a boss, the most enjoyable part of my job is meeting and conversing with people from diverse backgrounds. It is also extremely gratifying to finish a project in the best possible manner and exceed our customers’ expectations. Happy customers are what keeps us going!
When I am not servicing my clients, I love woodworking in my off time, but it is not often. I also enjoy golf, but again it is a rare occasion. My favorite hobby is spending quality time with my family, and going on outings which keeps us fit.
I also feel very strongly about helping children become healthy and recover from cancer to live a full productive life, and this is why I am a big supporter of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
